Descripción

Fraser's Sedge (Cymophyllus fraserianus) along the Profile Trail at Grandfather Mountain State Park. The flower parts are arranged in rings with the male parts (stamens) at the tip and the female parts swelling into seeds in a ring below the stamens. On the female parts you can still see the forked stigmata that served to catch the pollen. As the seeds ripen, these wither and disappear.
