Hemispherical, approx. 10 cm in diam. Collected (Stn. NM 170) and identified by the late Dr. Bill Austin as Phorbas oxeota (=Lissodendoryx (Lissodendoryx) oxeota). The white nudibranch eating the sponge is considered to be Aldisa tara.

Now identified as Zyzzyzus rubusidaeus. A large, red-wine coloured hydroid that grows in clusters up to 10 cm in diameter. Found in habitats with strong tidal currents. Described as a new species by Brinkmann-Voss & Calder in 2013.

This nudibranch appears to be quite particular about its prey and is most often found feeding on the polyps of the large hydroid Zyzzyzus rubusidaeus. This hydroid is found only in strongly current-swept habitats and is most abundant in Weynton Passage, near Port McNeill, BC. The second picture shows several nudibranchs attacking the polyps and a deposit of their eggs near the base of the hydroids.
