This mushroom struck me as an odd thing, and I've seen a few mushrooms in my time. Does anybody know what it is? The pics are not good sorry, taken on a phone.
It has an offal-like pileus as you can see, attached to a kind of stem with a bulbous base, with a single rhizomey thread thing.
I wondered was it somewhere in the family of Gyromitra?
It was growing beside the path in leaf litter. Native bush. Totara was around. Thanks for any advice!

20 meters behind Gouland downs Hut on the Heaphy Track in amongst the forestry and tree.
I saw the bird matching the pictures in the Heaphy Track huts. Didn’t think anything of it at the time other than it was a bit different. Didn’t hear it’s all but it was hoping along low branches and the forest floor.
The bird was dark blue in colour and had an orange thingo under its beak.
While standing I’d estimate that the bird was roughly a foot and quarter or a foot and a half tall. Just a rough estimate.
Encounter was quite brief - only about 10 seconds so I didn’t really notice too much activity. It just flew onto a branch, did a couple of hops along a couple of branches and flew away again. The bird was roughly 15 meters away.
