My Mom and I both agreed, these ducks were cute!
The pair stayed close together, when one duck fell behind the other, it would quickly swim back to the side of its mate. This closeness was not shared with the Mallards or Canada Geese though. The Buffleheads stayed isolated from the other birds, they would even swim away when people approached them.
I did not observe either dive below the water, they just swam around on the surface.
The cormorants are back! This one caught a few fish.

Good to see the ole girl again....Funny thing is she kept swimming in closer, but she never slapped her tail this time! Usually she comes right over & glares at me, then slaps her tail at the dog!!
Super cool!
Looks like those bubble-eyed goldfish are flying free!
It was the largest bee I had ever seen! Just look at the size of the thing! I made sure to get photos, that's when I noticed she was injured; missing an entire wing. I carefully placed her in a nearby tree for safety. Hopefully she's doing ok.
Marita Payne Pond has one resident Blue Heron. It's seen irregularly by the main pond and probably spends more time by the stream, as that's where I found it on this occasion.
It stood near the edge of the water, looking down for prey. I didn't see it catch anything but what I did notice were those beautiful breeding colours! In the few years I've come to this location, I haven't seen a heron like this. I'm most drawn to the bill, rendered in a bright orange that slowly transitions into a lemon yellow at the tip. I couldn't look away!
When I returned an hour later, the heron was in the same place. I tried getting closer for more shots, but it flew away when it saw me.
A pair of cowbirds. I had seen a whole flock of them here last year, but alas, I did not have my camera on me.
