Observed the rabbit at dawn sitting in the sand near my tent. Got a good look as it was within 20 ft. of me and it was light enough to see the color, shape, size.
Smaller than the typical Antelope Jackrabbit but about the same size as a Black-tailed Jackrabbit I've seen in Arizona.
This rabbit was a uniform dark brown or charcoal color all over, the underbelly may have been somewhat lighter in color than the rest. Inside ear linings were light in color contrasted with rest of body. I saw the rabbit move slowly off to the adjacent rocks where it hid. Was unable to produce a photo of the animal, only the tracks it left when I retrieved by camera.
