This was not a cormorant. It looked more like a large duck. It was mostly black, with a white neck, a black head and some white feathers in its wings! It was a little smaller than a Canadian goose weight, so pretty large!
Along UAF ski trail, N. of ski hut, close to the bottom of the hill, on the right side, before the open area connected to the parking lot. Mixed forest. It has mild, somewhat pleasant smell. Chocolate brown spore print.
Windshield shots...Red-winged blackbirds do not cooperate.

Gray-headed Swamphens are now frequently seen at Harns Marsh, Lehigh Acres, Florida. An invasive species.
Purple Gallinules had recently been taking hold at this location, but when the swamphens arrived a few years later, the purple gallinules have become harder to find.
