Lower and Upper Vivian Swamps, Dogtown
July 17, Visited these two fens to see how they are doing after a hiatus of 20 years. Vegetatively they look pretty good. Woody plants are about the same although there is a lot more Frangula alnus in the mix. No obvious flowering plants of interest. Access in is a lot tougher to navigate. The spring was running but looked contaminated from compost operation run-off. This needs to be fixed. I need to do a nutrient loading study to see if the compost effluent is fertilizing the fens.
