Spotlighting - 1 October 2024
Approx. 3 hour trek through Prout Road Park near Mount Petrie. Occurred the day after an approx. 5-10mm rain event.
Notable species include:
- Kingfisher (Sacred Kingfisher?) spotted low down, roosting on a branch over the path
- Squirrel glider (first identified through a call which was recorded, then seen but not photographed)
- Koala (call heard but not seen)
- Boobook owls (several heard but not seen)
- Numerous different spider and insect species identified on some of the large trees at a summit clearing (-27.530675,153.1414805556)
- Large deposit of unidentified mammal/marsupial droppings located on a path
- Significant number and variation of weeds located at a large pond/lake to the west of Prout Road Park
- Only a few large cane toads.

Unknown high pitched squeak, seemingly from an insect or bat flying around the canopy of tall trees - can be heard throughout the night in pretty much any bushland in the area

Observation relates to the bark/yelp sounds from what is believed to be a glider (sugar or squirrel?). Recording also contains what could be a boobook call in the middle. A small glider was sighted about 5 minutes after this recording, in a large gum.
