• An observation I captured shortly before 2019

• I found it stuck in the leaf-guard pit ( I am not aware of the technical term for the house feature, and I did not attempt to look it up to be frank 😅) that is found along the perimeter of most houses in North America.

• This was found at the same time and in the same location as my previously posted salamander observation.

• This beetle was appearing to be dead for ~3 minutes, and after this length of time, the beetle began doing slow movements. This was followed by, what I would classify, average ‘assumed’ beetle speed.

•I have classified this as ‘Plocamostethus planiusculus’, and while I did only noticed few of these classified (one being in New York, I believe) on the iNaturalist Map, it appeared to most closely resemble this specimen. Further, I was considering the classification of beetle that begins with the descriptive “big-head”, however I noticed that the big-head beetle of this resemblance had much different observable features where the head meets the body.

Please comment, correct, and inform me if I misclassified this beetle! : )

• This was found lifeless, on a basement floor; therefore, categorizing this, still being of-correct-form, as ‘not-captive’ is proper.

• The last (of these four) photograph was taken right where & when this was found. Before that photograph I rolled the specimen to lay resting on its naturally criss-crossed legs.

The photograph(s) with a background reflecting no frequency of color from it/them, was/were at the same location and time as the initial discovery, of this lifeless specimen.

🦎 Eastern Red-backed Salamander(Lead-backed Phase)

**I misidentified my initial classification, but it was corrected with the help of the community! (See below)**

· This salamander was located ~ 2.5" below soil surface, and the environment was moist soil packed at the surface, and below the surface it appeared there was rocks and clumpy dirt wads against vertical concrete foundation.

•My attention was instantly pulled towards this from afar, for it was basking in the sun all by it’s lonesome-self. One energized blue flower, dancing among the dwindling nature that surrounds it.
