This tiny bird came very close to investigate. It is either a south island Robin or a female tomtit. The behaviour reminded me of its north island counterpart which would investigate whenever we were in its territory while occasionally checking loose bark for insects. I had heard songs earlier that were more like the south island tomtit, which at the time -- I had thought was a grey warbler with a messed up warble.

Looks like a harvestman yet is surprisingly dark with bright vivid markings on its 'body'. Unlike a spider which either run or show attitude this played non responsive.

I haven't noticed anything like this before, not even in this location. The ID I gave is just what inaturalist thinks is usual nearby and visually similar

Surprised by this tiny catepillar no more than 2cm long stretched out. It brushed onto me from an area surrounded by dense packed totara, kanuka, kowhai, and kapuka next to the path
