Found this on a mesquite tree in McKinney Falls state park. Never seen anything quite like it. Looked like it had a closed trap door on one side and seemed hollow(ish). Didn’t break it open though. In a strange way it reminds me of a mantis egg case but different . Could it possibly be a Chinese Mantis egg case? Any ideas?

I am on the fence about Bobcat vs Ocelot here so I thought that I would leave the ID open until I get more input from people with more experience with Ocelot tracks.
Notebook in photos is 5.5 inches long with tick marks in pen every inch.

I believe that these are Ocelot Tracks but I have little experience tracking Ocelots and would like others with more experience to weigh in.

This track was out in a really open area. A small isolated patch of small shrubs nearby (rattlebush, I think) but it didn't look like enough cover for Cottontail to me. I see Jackrabbit tracks in this location all the time, but this looks much more like cottontail to me. The only thing that gives me pause is the habitat. Perhaps there is enough cover and they are moving into the Jackrabbit territory?
