I know it’s a Huhu beetle but I’m curious what kind of ants are crawling over it, about 3 mm. I’ve not noticed these tiny ants on the property before. Also for the last 30 minutes a number of ants are just going around and around the board, why are they not on the beetle with the other ants? Since the beetle died this am I suspect all the surrounding ants are waiting until it decommissioned.

As I was cleaning out my snail and slug box this guy was attached to my brush, "waging its tail". As some of the snails had been eaten I removed the slugs. I teach environmental ed in primary schools. Until I hear back I will put it in a container with some cabbage leaves. As I am typing this it is on its "feet" periodically waging its tail from side to side. Thanks for your help! Dean
