Tan/yellow capsule (left) was dry and had cracked. When pulled off stalk (right) the dark brown rust or smut (?) was exposed and many spores were released in a cloud. Was near 2 feet) the base of an Ocotillo shrub. Cryptantha (white flower infloresences in background) gives idea of scale. Was observed in arid area, on sandy soil. This was over the hill about 400 m from the campgroup area, to the south on the bajada. Actual location was 32°50'27.8"N 116°13'32.9"W ( 32.841046, -116.225792)
