Found this beauty in the back garden. It appeared to be dead at first, but woke up when I tried to take pictures and flew at my head! It was about the size of a 1 pence piece, with iridescent wing cases that looked scratched and battered.

We have a bumblebee in a nest box that had been used by tree bumblebees both last year and the year before. This species is darker, with a bright yellow stripe on its thorax, behind the head, and a buff tail. It is otherwise black. What species is it?
