This is an attempt to recollect https://inaturalist.nz/observations/166199637 as most if the sample was lost.
This fits Greta Stevenson’s concept of Hygrophorus aurantius which was collected from clay banks Wellington Botanic Garden. Is now known as Cuphophyllus aurantiopallens. Requires microscopic examination.

Below the point of origin of the mushroom cluster looks like Armillaria rhizomorphs. Hypholoma and Armillaria often compete for the same wood.

Growing from a steep bank, fruitbody was horizontal, under kanuka (Kunzea ericoides) and other broadleaf native species, track going up from The Dell, Wellington Botanic Garden ki Paekākā.
Cap mottle olive green/yellow, gills white, stem very pale mauve (much darker in photo).
Added 2 more photos which give a more realistic colouring of the stipe as rosy rather than mauve.
