Observed this bee after it emerged from a Barestem Biscuitroot stem from last year. The wind hitting its wings caught my eye. I was able to switch to macro while it acclimated.
The last photo shows a fresh Barestem Biscuitroot (Lomatium sp.) newly flowering nearby.

Kah Tai Prairie - PT Golf Course property.
Only a few Bombus were observed this trip - Golf Course construction, heavy logs and debris have covered the ground nesting bee habitat early nesting season. The Bombus pollinators may be doing all the heavy lifting this season at the Prairie. I observed the disruption of the ground nesting bee site as nesting and construction began late March and early April.

Observed a new to me bee nesting site for KP. There were 10 or more bees flying low over the mass of fern growing in a depression adjacent to the blooming dune prairie/vegetation. The bees were exhibiting the male patrolling behavior, flying low over and landing on the mass of fern (probably licorice fern?). I am assuming females were emerging and nesting in the soil beneath the ferns.
This observation includes multiple bees. Correct me if I am wrong and there are photos of more than one species. Too much action to follow just one bee.
