On low vegetation in a swampy woodland. A small moth. I'm just starting to learn about the little moths, so please don't rely on this categorization until its confirmed or corrected by an expert.

In mostly bare sand on a small dune in a sand prairie -- a small spider wasp probing into the sand. I think its an Anoplius based on the blue-black color, the partial orange abdomen and the leg spines, but I could be wrong. Photos are a series of a single wasp.

Nectaring on Lespedeza capitata in a sand prairie. Though "Butterflies of Indiana" (Belth) says it's the most common skipper in Indiana, this is the first time I've photographed it, so (assuming I've ID'd it correctly) it's not so common in the Kankakee Sand region. A male. The two photos depict a single individual.

On a Liatris aspera blossom in a sand prairie -- but to my eyes, more likely 'lurking' than actually using the flowers for food. I'm going with the Sarcophagidae as a tentative ID, but some tachinids look quite similar. Photo has been rotated, the fly was actually pretty close to horizontal.

Collecting pollen on Liatris aspera in a sand prairie. The photos probably depict a single bee, but I'm not entirely sure now that some time has passed. Makes me think "Eumelissodes" but I can't articulate why -- perhaps because it's grey?

Flying in a proverbial blue sky. It was my impression that this group met with another that came in from the west about an hour earlier, and they spent some time together at the edge of an oak woodland. Maybe socializing, or maybe in a mild territorial confrontation. Hard to say with crows, but interesting to speculate. Possibly my appearance in the field marked the ending of their session, and the two groups (about 6-8 in each group) headed back from whence they came.

On the east side of a dead black oak (Q. velutina) about three meters above the ground. ID based mainly on the iNat bot -- the individual balls are about the size of a golf ball I suppose. Maybe Apioperdon pyriforme?

Sheltering, perhaps, in the eaves of a woodland cabin. A very large dragonfly -- I don't recall seeing one since so they may be rare in this area. [date corrected - the digital camera I used at that time didn't auto-record dates, but I found it in its original directory and derived the date from there]
