My son observed it in our honey locust and called to me. I saw it but it flew away before we could snap a photo.
It had a white breast, spotted wing feathers, and a tuft of red on its neck.
Has anyone else seen a woodpecker around South Central Lubbock?!

A small egg shell that my 5yo son found at Maxey Park. He described it as "gray with black lines and dots." There are plenty of grackles around this spot, so maybe one of their shells?
