Observaciones de sandyboeckh

My sister spotted this fresh water jellyfish near her dock in shallow water and was able to capture a video. I took a couple screen shots from the video she sent me so that I could upload a photo.

Not a great photo because I had to take it through a window.

It looked rather flat so must have felt threatened.

This momma Grouse and one chick were around the cottage for two days, eating in the bushes

I have never seen one of these and was fascinated by its flight like a hummingbird. It was feeding at the purple flowers of chive plants. I saw a couple of these over the past week.

Using gloves, I picked a few dozen of these caterpillars off an oak tree and drowned them in a bucket of soapy water.

This little guy was about 4 cm long. We always called them “penny toads” growing up.

At least 6 of these frogs were in the same little swamp.

This garter was swimming and contorting its body oddly. It either had a full stomach or the water was quite cold.

This northern water snake was about 15 inches in length

This picture was taken at night, well after dark. (A flashlight makes it look light outside.)

I see these caterpillars quite often in the Collingwood area but was surprised to see one way out on Dart Island.

There were several of these mountain ash bushes full of berries on Dart Island!

I am not sure if this is a type of thistle or not.

The picture only captures a bit of the garter snake as it slithered into the grass and bush.

I am not sure what kind of turtle this was - small but did not want to get too close to it in my kayak and scare it away.

This snake has a distorted pattern from just eating a big snack!

I think this is an American Toad but we have always referred to these little ones as “penny toads” due to their diminutive size.
