Thick, stiff leaves, urled in along the margin; dark green on the front and light green on the back. Bark is ridged. Could be chestnut oak, but we have a lot of Chestnut oak in the area, and the leaves and bark on this tree aren't exactly what I'm used to seeing.
I found an unusual thick dark-green oak leaf in this area a month ago, that I ID'd as Chinkapin Oak. (See linked observation.) I'm reasonably sure it was from this tree.

tpollardDescripción
The leaves on this plant are thick, dark-green, and glabrous, with untoothed margins. The flowers appear to have axial symmetry.
Turtleheads were planted in this area, and it's possible that's what this is, but I don't think so. The turtlehead that was planted around here was Chelone glabra, which has (generally) white, bilaterally symmetric flowers.
