Descripción

This small 1 cm grasshopper hopped away when I tried to get photos. It looks almost black, with a thin beige stripe down its back. The enlarged photos show a reddish stripe down the middle of the beige stripe, and tiny spots on its legs. I'd never seen anything like it before!

Prionitis sternbergii was abundant in one section of the beach, an area with fresh water flowing onto the beach. Most of this Prionitis was badly bleached and eroded.

Descripción

My guess is this is a Tectura (Lottia) scutum (Plate Limpet) about to be consumed by this juvenile oystercatcher. A pair of Black Oystercatchers foraged along the beach, and many empty limpet shells littered the beach.
