I am now a retired but still research-active Professor of Biology at Indiana State University. I have studied Sceloporus lizards for over 30 years. In the last 8 years I have been more active in research on species in Mexico, in collaboration with Dr. Emilia Martins (Arizona State University), Dr. Jose Jaime Zuniga-Vega (UNAM Mexico DF), and Dr. Cuau Vital-Garcia (Universidad de Ciudad Juarez). I study steroid hormones (mostly testosterone and corticosterone) behavior, and color signals, especially in the context of sexual selection and evolutionary patterns in conspecific signalling traits and the underlying physiological mechanisms. My colleagues and I use single-species studies and also larger phylogenetic comparative analyses.
In iNaturalist, I am interested in using posted images to correlate dates with variation in female reproductive coloration (the orange along the labial scales and sides of neck, in S teapensis, for example). ALso other Sceloporus species.
