I am a retired building contractor who has lived and worked on Florida's west coast (Longboat Key) since 1980. I am an avid fly angler who has enjoyed the waters of Sarasota Bay for almost four decades and is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Bay for future generations.

I'm a writer, photojournalist, and Fly Fishers International Certified Fly Casting Instructor. I was a founder and first President of the Manatee Chapter of the Florida Conservation Association (now CCA), and a founder of and Co-Chairmen of the Sister Keys Conservancy. The Conservancy was awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Award in Washington in 1992 for its work protecting the Sister Keys. I served as President and Chairman of the Board of The Florida Outdoor Writers Association and am a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. In 2007 I was a co- founder of Sarasota Bay Watch and served on the Board for 13 years. I am currently a Board Chair of Suncoast Waterkeeper working on water quality issues locally. I am the Outdoors Editor of the Anna Maria Island Sun, and write a weekly column entitled Reel Time..

I live in the historic Longbeach Village on the north end of Longboat Key with my wife Christine a massage therapist and Tai Chi teacher.
