Just before I was born, my father earned his MS in Botany by comparing the flora of granite and volcanic mountain tops in the Sierra Nevadas. So, much of my childhood was spent on hikes around California during which my father would identify all of the plants by name. This idea has stuck, and now that I'm a father and science teacher in the northern Napa Valley I'd like to inspire my children and students in the same manner; studying the rich biodiversity of our beautiful valley and state.
