2015 San Emigdio/Tehachapi/Southern Sierra BioBlitz

The purpose of this effort is threefold:

1. To increase our understanding of the biodiversity of this critical region.
2. To foster collaboration among the myriad land owners and managers in the San Emigdio/Tehachapi/Southern Sierra region. If repeated at regular intervals, these efforts can produce important long-term data at a regional scale. A BioBlitz can also tell much about species' ranges, migratory patterns, and local phenology.
3. To provide opportunities for people to explore an area that has been difficult to access for a long time.

This year, Tejon Ranch Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, Audubon Kern River Preserve, Southern Sierra Research Station, and private landowners are synchronizing their efforts for a regional snapshot. Since this is the first time attempting such an ambitious endeavor, we did a low-key pilot with experts from many fields of natural history, including botany, entomology, ornithology, and herpetology.
