Current Results!

Thank you to all students and taxonomic experts who helped to find 494 species at the BioBlitz this year! We could not have done it without you! This count is from our paper data sheets and the research grade iNaturalist observations.

Some highlights include our first owls spotted (heard) at one of our BioBlitzes, our first opossum, and our first salamanders (3 species!). We also found the most birds of any of our BioBlitzes - 80 species!

We're still waiting for a few teams to finish their lab analyses, so I expect this number to increase as time goes on. Stay tuned!

Thank you all for a great BioBlitz!

The BioBlitz this past weekend was amazing thanks to our student and scientist observers! We're well on our way to having the best iNaturalist turnout of any of our BioBlitzes and observations are still trickling in! Our bird data was compiled in eBird, so stay tuned for that and other data we have yet to enter from our paper data sheets.

Thanks to all in the community who are coming in and identifying and confirming our observations! Please keep it going!

10 Days Until BioBlitz!

In 10 days, Macaulay Honors College Class of 2020 will spend 24 hours teamed up with local experts to find as many species as possible in Alley Pond Park! We can't wait to see what we discover! We'll have teams focused on ants, bats, bees, beetles, birds, fish, flies, herps, lepidopterans, lichens, moss, microbes, odonates, plants, pond inverts, and spiders, but we'll be looking for every living thing we can identify! We're also going to have a water quality team checking out Oakland Lake and Alley Creek! Watch our results roll in starting 3pm on September 9th!
