2020

2020 was a bad year and 2021 has kept up the momentum, I had my mom, step-dad and sister at my house for end of life care, my dad succumbed to Covid19 pneumonia in August. I'm now caring for my dads youngest sibling. I've tried to document some of my observations but time has been extremely limited. I really appreciate everyone who contributes to the Inaturalist site, reviewing all the observations has helped me to stay sane throughout the nearly 2 years now that I've been taking care of terminal family members. I look forward to seeing more from each of you.

Thank you

I would like to thank each and every one of you for contributing to this wonderful citizen science website, my work would be so much more difficult without you. If anyone is interested in meeting up for a hunt or if you have a particular mushroom that you are interested in or have questions, please drop me a line and I will get back to you.

Southwest Greenway Trail

This is a trail through the headwaters of Bayou Chico, there are several different entrances, an excellent boardwalk through the majority of the trail when entering on Fairfield drive. Bug repellent is recommended during the warmer months, mosquitoes and biting flies can get quite intense.
I walked the entire length of the Trail without difficulty and I've had a stroke that caused me to drag my right side somewhat, it is wheelchair friendly as well.
This is an excellent place to observer many species of fungi, plants and animals. Black bears have been known to use the floodplain as a thoroughfare along with deer, ducks and maybe even some pigs. I use to live along this greenway as child, we had a neighbor whom had several pigs escape back in the 1980's.
The creek has excellent bream fishing, beavers, alligators and so much more, take a look for yourself, I think you will enjoy yourself.

New Discovery

I have recently made 2 collections of Psilocybe tampanensis in Escambia county, Florida, USA. Several specimens were sent to Alan Rockefeller for DNA analysis. Here's the link that has the BLAST data.

Hello

I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone a little about myself and what it is I'm trying to do. I am a native of the Pensacola area, I have lived in Pensacola nearly half my life. I was fortunate to spend some of my teenage years in Saudi Arabia, California, Missouri and Maryland.
I served in the U.S.Coast Guard as a corpsman, my duties included: radiology, laboratory technician, prehospital trauma, advanced cardiac life support, controlled substances custodian, Training officer, pharmacy technician, minor surgery, independent duty and supply officer. I am now retired.
I have had an interest in fungi of all sorts ever since I saw my first mushroom. I am a self educated mycologist, continuing to learn something new every day is one of the things I look forward too.
There are so many beautiful varieties of mushrooms already known to the world and more waiting to be discovered. If we work together, we will find them and share them with the world.
Building a fungarium has also been something I've been working on for a couple years now, DNA testing is something else I want to do on my fungarium specimens., unfortunately it is expensive and currently reserved for special specimens. If If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask, Any help, suggestions ,critiques or criticism is much appreciated.

Sincerely,
William
