A fire was reported on the north side of the Park at roughly midday today (July 2, 2019), and rapidly consumed as much as 200 acres (according to news reports) heading upslope toward residences perched above the Park on Lochmoor Drive. While City and County resources were directed at controlling the blaze, some residences may have been evacuated, and Central Avenue past the intersection with Canyon Crest Drive and upslope past the Nature Center entrance was temporarily closed to traffic. It appears from City of Riverside online records that the last major fire in the Park was in 2013, at almost the same time in the afternoon, on July 4.
