I have been a Naturalist from the mountains to the sea. I originally was interested in nature photography. I wondered what a Naturalist was and became one. Questions can lead you to new places. I’ve always been a teacher, in earlier years it was music and dance. Have also incorporated movement into nature teaching. I have taught all ages, including teaching teachers how to present hands on science in the class room.
I have worked for RCD of the Santa Monica Mountains, taught at 5 LA Co Natural areas, and the USC Wrigley institute. Did animal care for 5 yrs at Nature centers. My favorite was Placerita canyon natural area working with birds of prey for education programs on and off campus. I have a love of raptors, miss caring for them and presenting their majesty to others. I also trained staff at Whittier narrows how to work with Great horned owl. How many people can say they took Raptors for walks? Good for them and good for my soul! Don’t get me wrong I’m interested in all creatures of nature. From the smallest insect to the largest animal or plant. Raptors just have a special place in my heart.
At Eaton canyon ran Jr Rangers, Student naturalist, summer camp, Nature dance program (learning about nature through movement), and trained volunteers for animal care and assisting programs. Also implemented new way of doing field trips to meet California standards for teachers to validate field trips. Added water testing section.
For USC Wrigley Institute was interim program manager for Edison Challenge. At Edison Big creek facility organized logistics and taught classes for Edison challenge winners. One of judges for science fair winners. Helped with Quick science program and COSEE west. Taught on and off USC campus, including Catalina institute. Implemented others programs and formed some of my own! Did collaboration with JEP house and USGS at USC for on and off campus teacher workshops.
I have recently been leaning aromatherapy and Herbal teas for medicinal purposes.
Just another study of nature. I believe in the magic of nature, hence the dragon picture, and the practical.
I have always increased my knowledge through workshops,lectures, and constant reading.
I love iNat because I get to fine tune my knowledge all the time and also help others.
