Snowy-bellied Hummingbird

Amazilia edward

Overview 2

The Snowy-bellied Hummingbird’s clean white belly and its green chest are diagnostic within its range. Males sing by themselves from perches within trees or shrubs, generally away from flower patches. Areas inhabited by Snowy-bellied Hummingbirds experience seasonal changes in abundance, probably coinciding with flower availability. Habitat preferences vary significantly among the different populations. Those in Costa Rica and western Panama favor partially open areas including brushy savanna, open woodlands, second growth, forest edges, clearings, roadsides, coffee plantations, and gardens. Island populations tend to select old fields, mangrove swamps, or areas near streams.
