Mealy Parrot

Amazona farinosa

Overview 1

The Mealy Parrot is a large Amazona of Central and northern South America. It is almost all green with a bold white eyering of bare facial skin and a red patch in the secondaries. Though common throughout its range, the species has suffered some declines due to trapping for the captive wildlife trade and habitat loss. Mealy Parrots are often detected in flocks by their large size, thick wings, and short tails, and their variable raucous, squawking calls.
