Terrestrial epiphytic bromeliad, up to 1.5m high, greyish rigid leaves about 80cm long with dark brown hooked spines, a racemose inflorescence about 60cm long with tubular erect green-blue petals, purple bracts and green fruits.
Wet montane grasslands and rocky ground.
