Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname, Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
Small, tank-forming, epiphytic bromeliad. Often pollinated by bats, hummingbirds and butterflies. Fruits are capsules, flowers at 40cm high, leaves are 20-25cm long, pale green with small reddish marks below. Inflorescence is simple, has 6-18 flowers with chartaceous floral bracts, bright red above the middle and greenish-yellow at the apex.
Has broad environmental tolerance occurs throughout tropical climate areas. 0m – 1000m asl.
