Occurs mostly in moist lowland and montane forests, as well as swamp forests of South America, from about 0-10 to 2,200 m.
A small pseudobulb epiphyte with small, oblong-elliptic, complanate pseudobulbs subtended by several scarious bracts and has a single apical, linear, acute leaf that is tapered to the conduplicate base and flowers in the winter and spring on a basal, short, erect to pendant, 1 1/2" [4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with the floral bract tubular and the sweetly fragrant flowers held below the leaves.
