Medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte or rarely lithophyte with clustered, ovoid, rugose pseudobulbs enveloped basally by imbricate, distichous, acute sheaths and carrying 2 apical, oblanceolate, plicate, acute to acuminate, petiolate leaves that blooms in the winter and early spring on an erect, basal, 5 1/5" to 8 3/4" (13 to 22 cm) long inflorescence arising on a newly maturing pseudobulb with rigid, lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts carrying 2 to 3, fleshy flowers.
Primary forests at elevations of 100 to 1600 meters in rain forest on tree trunks in shade.
