Centroceras clavulatum is widespread in warm and temperate waters around the world, but in the Pacific coast of North America it is found from San Fransisco, California (USA) through Mexico and Latin America.

Habitat
C. clavulatum is found in the mid to lower intertidal zone, and is often growing epiphytically on other algae.

Morphology and Identification
Centroceras clavulatum has a non-hollow thallus, that grows in along with other algae as turf; typically 1-5 cm tall. It is hairlike in dense clumps. It has dichotomous branches with encircling cellular bands. The tips of branches curve inward forming small pincher/clawlike tips at the end of filaments and there are tiny spines found at each band/segment.
