About three days ago, I saw a mongoose from far. I could not take any pics because it was so far away but from the long brown body and the way it ran, it was a mongoose. The manicou are nowhere in sight, someone probably caught them. There was a large adult and two juveniles. The pond in the back seems to be in the process of being filled up. I don't know for sure. I hope the caimans were removed or given a chance to get out of the pond. There is a drain nearby, they might escape through there. I often heard them loudly at night. A strange throaty sound that obviously differs from the toads.
These house lizards, the geckos or wood slaves are quite noisy at night. Its a bit irritating. I cannot ever remember these little things being so loud.
I have been seeing quite a number of birds, lately on mornings, the Southern Lapwings make a great deal of noise while flying. There are a number of parrots as well. I saw a Yellow Oriole on a banana tree. Some of the vegetation and plants have disappeared. There was a Cecropia peltata tree that was cut down. It was not very large but you know trees are important for shade etc.
The teak forest in the distance is in bloom. I would like to visit just to see if the Caracaras are still hanging around there. A couple of times I went and there was a Caracara. There is a termite's nest. So much things to do and document. With the Covid pandemic its not a good idea to be roaming too much .
