Beach Walking - stage 7

Took place on 18 May 2022 at mid tide. A south-westerly wind.

From the Waimeha Stream, Waikanae to Peka Peka Beach (Peka Peka Road end).

The predominant seashells on the foreshore (at the normal high tide mark) were Triangle shells, Tuatua and Ringed Dosinia. Very few whelks. A few partial Cake urchins (Felaster zelandiae).

One dead fin fish - Kahawai (Arripis trutta). Hundreds of washed up Bluebottle jellyfish (Physalia physalis) along the length of the beach.

A flock of about 20 Variable oystercatchers (Haematopus unicolor) beside the Waimeha Stream otherwise very few sea birds. Just the odd Blacked-backed Gull and Red-billed gull.

Also see my observations for 18 May 2022.
