I live on private property that falls smack-dab in the middle of this Pennsylvania riparian woodland IBA. Highest elevation approximately 400 ft. This parcel is 42 acres of secondary hardwood forest fragmented by grazing fields and a private residence. The northwestern-most tract of Delaware County. A small unamed stream cuts through the property which connects with Crum Creek at West Chester Pike. Trees are 100-year-old 1) Tulip 2) Beech, 3) Hickory, 4) White pine, 5) Black walnut. Very few maple. Terrain is sloped, rocky, and riddled with invasives. I’m trying to propogate native flowering plants and shrubs for the birds and pollinators. A herd of 11 white-tailed deer have devastated the understory and valley of diversity. Also breeding on/near the property: red fox, cottontail rabbit, raccoon, flying squirrel, grey squirrel, chipmunk, great-horned owl, pileated woodpecker, amd typical woodland somgbirds.
