Descripción

A frenzy of seabirds and marine mammals were congregating in Allen Bay off Cornwallis Island to feed on the abundant cod. The Northern Fulmars could plunge underwater to catch their prey, but if successful they then had to fight past a gauntlet of hungry Glaucous Gulls, jaegers, and even members of their own species. The graceful little Black-legged Kittiwakes hovered overhead before diving into the water from a height, much like a tern. Among the birds in flight I spotted two or three Thayer’s Gulls (which at the time were still considered a distinct species). A pair of Parasitic Jaegers was also at the scene, and true to their name these kleptoparasites were harassing the other seabirds so as to steal their catch.
