(smaller bird on right) This organism was identified out in Paynes Prairie/Sweetwater Wetlands. Two birds were observed from a distance in marshy shallow wetlands. Temperature was about 74 degrees F, and it was overcast but still somewhat sunny.
Class: Aves -- feathered tetrapod with toothless beaked-jaw
Order: Pelecaniformes -- all birds with four webbed toes
Family: Ardeidae -- long beak, long legs and long retractable necks (s-shape kink), long toes
Genus: Egretta -- medium-large, breeding plumage, pointed bill and long legs
Identified as likely a Little Blue Heron, E. caerulea, due to characteristic blue-grey body and light blue beak with black tip.
