Description

Not much to look at from above.
Dark teeth with a refractive sheen when rotated. Cap flesh very dark blue- black, without obvious zonations, and bright, paler beige in stipe.

Fruitbodies getting old at this spot on this date.

Large size (clusters larger than my hand, and 10+ cm tall), dull, even dark blue-black colors, paler olive-brown flesh point to P. marymargaretae.

What do people call these lovely red-capped ones?

There were a few whitish-capped
'ovinus' types around, but the vast majority of the non-flettii Albatrellus in this spot were distinctly rosy-capped like these.
