About 5+ inches long. This caterpillar's legs weren't quite long enough to walk on the road, so as it moved along the pavement, it kept losing its grip and rolling several times before being able to gain its footing and carry on. Very amusing to watch.
Haven't found a species that looks quite right for this one, but assume it has to be a type of sphinx moth. Corrections welcome!

Not sure if this is IDable to species. Tried lightening the photos in various ways, not very successfully. At the time, based on the birds chasing it (ie size), I thought it was a sharp-shinned, but I am not sure.
