Never noticed these critters before, but they appeared all of a sudden on our screened porch in abundance, probably rising through the floorboards from the soil below. They made their presence known, dropping on my breakfast, climbing on my neck, and flying into my face. By the next day they were mostly gone.

Here are added closeups and a shot of the plants after I fought off the bees trying to spread the plant and dug them out by the roots. The plant material will be discarded in a plastic trash bag to ensure they do not sprout again. ID’ing them was so much easier in bloom (thank you, Bob B!) and I did not wait for a research grade ID lest they go to seed and get out of control. I will check the wetland next season to see if the roots resprout.
