This Blue Jay was sharing the feeder with smaller birds, it’s own group (3), and a squirrel. Everything was taking turns, it was odd.

Found this beside a creek. Beavers and woodchucks are both in the area. It may not be a gnaw but it struck me as one because of the pattern at the top. The bottom of this is a good five inches from the ground.

Quick look in field this reminded of a croton. Suggestion on this site offered horseset or fleabane and some others reminding me of sunflowers. Without the flowers, I’m not sure about the ID.

The first photo is from early March or late February. It contains both red deadnettle and henbit. The other photos, the focus should be on red dead nettle, I think one does contain henbit.
