Several specimens of this same type were found scattered on the 0.8 acre property. Most were found pushing up through a thin layer of pine needles where overland flow had occurred during a recent rain (4 days ago). This particular specimen must have been dug up and partially eaten by wildlife (possibly a squirrel). There are chew marks on the cap (see last photo). Another observed specimen appeared to have been eaten inside the stem by ants (ants emerged from inside).
