According to Starrett and Hedin's review of the different cryptic species within the A. riversi complex, this is very near the southwestern edge of the "Valley" spider clade. This makes sense in the shape of their turrets which are very similar to those at Pinnacles N.P., but quite different from those at Point Lobos.

Found growing on an old fencepost. Because both L. vulpina and L. lupina are know from the same region of southern Monterey Bay, and they are morphologically nearly indistinguishable, I am leaving this one as Letharia sp.

Thick patches of this lichen were found growing on the trunks of Blue Oaks (Q. douglasii). A small sample was given a spot test using bleach instead of KOH and it turned deep red, separating it from the very similar genus Flavoparmelia.
