Occasionally seen now in open areas in town and in farmland in county. I did not see this species while living in north central Arkansas (Marion and Baxter counties) in the 1960s.

Locality: United States, Arkansas, Stone, About 3 miles east of Optimus T16N R11W S8 NW4 NW4
Habitat: Lower edge of sand glade in small flat bottom valley 8 feet wide and 12 feet deep, on vertical side wall in moist seep; soil thin to crevices, very sandy. Thousands of plants here but only in within 20 to 30 feet of valley habitat; plants and fruit superficiality light purple and appearing like a moist fungal growth.

When I let the dog, Bella the Beagle out, after 2 a.m., I thought she was barking at an abandoned cat we had the the back camper of my truck. But on careful observation, I saw she had found this possum. I often see them both in and out of town.
