This was growing on the same tree as the small brown mushroom (s). Based on the brown top and easily scaring underside, this is most likely a species belonging to the genus Ganoderma. However, as I am not well versed in mushrooms of Japan and I wasn't able to collect a specimen for further analysis, I can't narrow this one down to species :/

Found growing wild next to a bush on the way home from a friend's. Flowers are a rich pink; almost magenta. 5 merus, around 10 stamens. Flowers grow on their own stalk and the leaves are in 3s; very reminiscent of plants in the Fabaceae family. When I saw them earlier the flowers were open, but most have now closed (I'm guessing because the temperature has dropped now that it's evening.
