This snake was swimming in the Blanco River. It is approximatley 15 inches long. Has a white dot on its head and white or light colored bars across its back. I believe it is a juvenille blotched watersnake.

Suspect a recent raccoon visit. Several mussel shells were open on the shoreline with soft tissue attached. Photos includes three separate mussel specimens and the survey site.

In a pool of water off the shoreline of Belton Lake. Silt substrate. Water 6 inches to 1.5 feet deep. Found 104 live Threeridge mussels in the pool. Photos include several different Threeridge specimins, the survey sight, a submerged threeridge and a mussel trail.

The right valve of a fragile papershell. Shell thin. External coloration a reddish brown with a few extremely faint rays. Internal nacre pink and purple near the beak and white near the margins/pallial line.
Pink papershell also occur in this area and have very similar characteristics.
